EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is used to help people heal traumatic or “stuck” memories. When memories get stuck, the emotions, thoughts and sensations we felt at that time can continue to be disturbing long after the actual event is over.
EMDR allows the brain to “open up” the stuck memory. Once it is opened and accessible, the brain begins to process the experience–something it was unable to do at the time of the trauma. During processing, the brain brings important and useful information about the memory into perspective which allows the disturbance to dissipate.
I have used EMDR to treat birth trauma, childhood trauma, adult trauma, ingrained, negative childhood beliefs and phobias.
